With busy lifestyles and hectic schedules, most people rarely find time to organize their closet. It is easy to put your clothes into every space you find in your closet. If you cannot find some of your clothes, chances are you will not wear them. After sometime, you may realize that you no longer have more space for your belongings. Organizing your closet saves you a lot of time and effort. Here are tips and ideas to help you organize your closet.
Empty Your Closet
Take all your clothes and shoes from the closet. Neatly fold your clothes in piles and place them on the floor.
- Decide What Clothes you will Store: Sort your clothes and determine which ones you will keep and those that you will store. Keep the clothes that you wear regularly and those that you would wear occasionally. Clothes that are not seasonally appropriate should be stored away. If its winter, you can store your summer dresses and shorts and if its summer or spring, you can store your winter coats and sweaters. Clothes and items of sentimental value which you do not wear should be stored. When you have finished sorting the clothes, place them in items like plastic containers or cardboard boxes.
- Decide What Clothes you will donate: Get rid of those clothes that you no longer wear. These are clothes that you have not worn for a year, are worn out or they are too small.
- Clean your Closet: Clean your closet before putting back your clothes. You can wipe the walls or sweep away cobwebs. If you wanted to paint your closet, this is the best time to do so. However, make sure that the paint has completely dried before putting back the clothes.
Put the Clothes in the Closet
Organize your clothes by season, type and style. This will make it much easier for you to find your clothes. Check whether you can store most of your clothes on hangers since they help to create more space.
- Use Other Parts of the Closet: Ensure you maximize space in your closet; use the space under the hanging clothes by using plastic bins to store extra garments. Overhead space could be used to store bulky clothes such as coats and bags.
- Arrange your Shoes: Shoes take up a lot of space so ensure you arrange them in an efficient manner. Organize them by type and how often you wear them.
Organize Other Items in the Closet
Other items other than clothes and shoes should be neatly arranged. Determine those items that you will keep and those that you will discard. Things like blankets, sheets and towels can be stored in plastic containers, or in a self storage facility.
Make Your Closet Attractive
Get creative and look for ways to make your closet attractive. You can consider painting your closet in pretty colors, using colorful bins to store your clothes or hanging jewelry where they can easily be seen.
