Safe Storage Depot, located at 1945 Wilson Avenue, is celebrating 20 years of service – two decades of keeping people’s belongings safe, secure, and accessible.
Founded in 2005, the Canadian-owned business was built on a simple but powerful idea, to create a clean, affordable, and community-minded storage experience.
What began with a single building has grown into one of the most respected storage facilities in the region.
“From the beginning, we knew we didn’t want to be just another storage site,” said Areef M. “We wanted a place people could trust – a place that felt welcoming and safe.”
Safe Storage Depot transformed a former furniture factory into a modern storage facility and has continued to evolve. In 2018, a second building was added. More recently, phase three was unveiled, featuring climate-controlled drive-up units, enhanced lighting, individual unit alarms, and 24/7 video surveillance – ideal for customers who require fast and reliable access.
With all units at ground level, there are no elevators or stairwells to navigate, making key features more accessible when poor weather or stressful life events make access more challenging.
“That detail alone makes a world of difference for people moving, downsizing, or going through major transitions,” said George D.
But what truly sets Safe Storage Depot apart is the pride they take in the property’s appearance and atmosphere.
“From paint touch-ups to trimmed trees, everything is looked after,” said Melina D. “It shows we respect our space – and more importantly, the people who use it.”
That same philosophy extends to how they price their services.
“We want to stay affordable – period,” said Areef. “Every six months, we check local competitors to make sure we’re offering great value. We’re here for the community, and that includes keeping our prices fair.”
Their commitment to the neighbourhood was especially evident during the pandemic, when Safe Storage Depot organized a local bottle drive and donated space for charitable efforts.
“Good business is about more than dollars – it’s about doing what’s right,” said George. “We take pride in being part of Emery Village.”
As new homes and developments rise just west of their site, the team is looking ahead.
“We’re growing with Emery,” Areef added. “And we’re excited for what’s next.”
