If you’re moving into the in Toronto, North York, Etobicoke or Brampton, self-storage lockers can be your best friends. But maybe you’re looking to fit all your gear into a smaller locker to save money?
No problem. It’s an exercise in letting go, but it’s doable.
Follow these steps to help squeeze your stuff into the smallest space possible.
Embrace Craigslist, Ebay and Kijiji:
Furniture is the biggest space-killer in your home and any storage locker. If you think someone else can make better use of your furniture, put it online. You’ll save space, while making a bit of money on the side.
You can make “must pick up” a condition of your sale. I once had a bidding war over a long roll of unused carpet I had to get rid of. I made 20 bucks and they came to take away something that I was ready to burn.
Have a Yard Sale:
This doesn’t just clear away big ticket items like furniture, this can also get rid of a number of other smaller items that combine to eat up a decent amount of space.
So if you’ve got a free weekend day, you can clear space and make some money.
Donate to Charity:
Again, if someone else would really appreciate it, letting go of old furniture or appliances becomes a lot easier. If you can donate your items to Goodwill or another worthy charity, we highly recommend it.
